  1. It seems Pope Francis has never said so. It appears that, this quote is a misinterpretation of what pope wrote in his Homily in 2013 May. Since December 2014, this quote is being circulate in social media.

  6. The original intention behind formation of all reigions was to unite mankind through organized thoughts with an ultimate aim of betterment of society through constant mental evolution. This is hard to achieve for an average human being with average intelligence and therefore more 'earthly' practices like idol worship and concepts like 'sin' and 'salvation' came into existence. It is rational to believe that religions were formed out of necessity, as faith in any form is inherent in an intelligent human being. What we see today is the result of lack of true knowledge of any religion and the misinterpretation of its real essence by less knowledgeable human beings.
